Well, harvest and crush have finished. This time of year is always a bit disconcerting due to my reaction to it: while I’m glad to finally get some rest and down time, there is a sadness at the ending of this exciting time of year. And of course the Harvest Bends: my body gets so used to moving all of the time, doing demanding physical work, that once it ends I get all twisted up and antsy (and a wee bit cranky) at the sudden dearth of exertion. Today I attempted to counteract the withdrawal by going for a run. Sadly, I ended up prone on the couch, watching a movie instead.
Though the excitement of crush has receded, a new source has begun: sales! My 2012 Pinot Noir is now for sale! In fact, a few cases now reside elsewhere in 1 short week. Not a bad start. And with time freeing up, I can begin to hit the pavement to try and really get sales rolling. In another couple of weeks the 2012 Cabernet Franc joins its sibling in the market. I can’t wait.
This past weekend we had a harvest celebration dinner (small affair, 60 people), and my Pinot had a seat at the table. The response came in positive, more so than I’d expected. I’ve gotten compliments on wine I’ve poured, but never has it been a wine of my creation. In this case it was, and to be honest, I was a tad embarrassed. Eventually I moved beyond that and adopted a proud glow. Pretty damn thrilling.
