This year I want to make an attempt to record my crush experiences on here. I can’t promise much for this post, being so late and all.
Today ran long. Most of the day passed by while I cruised the Valley in a massive box truck dropping off and picking up various bits. By the time I returned to the winery, the truck contained 5 barrels, 6 fermenters and 1 ton of Cabernet Franc, my first fruit of the year. For a day that started late, it turned around quick. My timing appeared to be on point (no waits at any stop. The expected wait for fruit never happened: I showed up as it was being off-loaded), and all went pretty darn smoothly.
First fruit. Cab Franc for my rose. Shooting from the hip again. Increased last year’s skin contact time from 1.5 to 2 hours. Also had my friends stomp all over ~50% of the grapes. Feeling good about it. I noticed the other day that my fear of being found out a fraud are diminishing. A tremendous amount of knowledge still roosts, waiting for me to find it, but I’ve made a couple good wines. I hope/plan to make more, but I will always have that. Maybe I need to actually say it? The words I avoid: I am a winemaker. Yeah, I guess I am.
Future Rose sits in tank, settling and awaiting barreling down. I need to stop eating these pretzels and refilling my glass with this tasty bubbly rose. To bed!
