And like that, summer starts feeling as though it’s coming to a close even though it’s really just beginning. Harvest is coming into view, and I’m starting to get after all the things that need doing before it arrives. Such as:

Bottling lots of wine. Last week we bottled the 2016 Cabernet Franc. In a week, the 2017 Nemarniki Pinot Noir, 2017 Silvershot Pinot Noir, and 2017 Grenache will get bottled (at least that’s the plan).

I’m finalizing grape orders for Vintage 2018.

Pulling out and cleaning my picking bins and fermenters.

Counting barrels and tanks to see if I have enough to meet my needs this year (fingers crossed I do, but I’m thinking I don’t.)

Trying to stay calm.

It’s a chaotic, fun, stressful time of year. All the things. As of right now I’m feeling more prepared for the Vintage than I have most years in the past. Which is nice, as long as the feeling lasts! Having an assistant this year already has me feeling calmer about what is to come. Not only will cellar work be quicker and easier, but it will free up more time for me to continue working on sales without the wines having to suffer from my absence.

And now, back to my spreadsheets.
